“Just a few quick flights from any airport in the country and you are in a position to stalk wild rainbow trout, or pull in some fresh wild salmon for the freezer. There are plenty of places to go catch fish but you’d be hard-pressed to put together a better combination of easy travel, luxurious lodge experience, and diverse fishing opportunities even for first time fly fishers than RKL.” – Marc F

“I had a great experience in 2009 when I first visited. This time, the food was even better(excellent before), outstanding now, the beds were better, the planes were refurbished and better. The guides continue to be first class and helpful, courteous and solicitous. They have been excellent both times. Frankly, everything about the experience was better. Really first rate and I can’t wait to make my next trip.” – Russell M 2017
“The Rainbow King Lodge provides as much fun as can be packed into a week of fly fishing in Alaska. The lodge is comfortable and the food is good, but the quality of the guides and the fishing is just fantastic. The float planes take you to extraordinary settings, great fishing, and a wonderful opportunity to understand why Alaska is so important to preserve and enjoy. Don’t miss it!” – Vincent G
“My 11-year-old son and I recently spent a week at Rainbow King—July 17 to 23rd 2016. We were greeted at the Iliamna airport by the guides and taken to the lodge which is only a few miles away. From the minute we arrived, we were welcomed by the staff and immediately felt their warm hospitality. The other guests must have felt it as well, and everyone just sort of naturally mixed. We had a wonderful dinner, and then a quick briefing on the week ahead by Gus. Our room was great, and the beds are very comfortable! We were awakened by a knock on the door the next morning and in came the hot coffee and hot cocoa for my son—-not too bad! We went to the dining room for breakfast, back to our room to get ready, and off we went. It’s that simple. Each day was a new adventure followed by relaxing in the “rec room“, a great meal, lots of laughs, and a great nights sleep. The fishing was incredible, and the guides were AWESOME. They were all extremely personable, polite, attentive and knowledgeable. Not only can they fish and instruct, but they can cook the best shore side lunches I could have imagined. The pilots and the aircraft were also AWESOME! We were in Heaven. Gus and his crew are the most hospitable, and professional bunch of people I’ve ever met—hands down. The owners and staff of Rainbow King have got it figured out! John Jr. did not want to leave….. If you are looking for a first class Alaska fishing experience, look no further. The fishing was incredible (sockeye, rainbows, grayling), but it was the people who made it a truly special experience. Thank you, Gus and your crew for taking such good care of us and making our trip of a lifetime so perfect!” Capt. John F
“I have read, and agree with, all of the other positive reviews of Rainbow King Lodge. I took my two young adult sons here in August 2016. Neither of my boys had extensive experience fishing, and I wanted to hook them on the sport if you will. They both had the time of their lives, catching (and releasing) dozens of beautiful, hard-fighting rainbow trout a day, as well as hooking some salmon (the Silver run was late this year), grayling, and Dolly Varden. Every day was a different, and fun, experience for us, including hiking the length of rivers, taking small outboard jet boats, rafting, and driving to a secluded spot on a river where Rainbow King had built a small shelter and you could fish all day or take a nap as my younger son did in front of a roaring firepit after he caught his daily limit of Silver Salmon! In short, we loved our experience at Rainbow King Lodge and look forward to returning one day soon.” – Mark S
“I have been coming to Rainbow King Lodge for 27 years now and plan to go back again next year with two friends. I have experienced different owners and different guides over that period. Today, RKL is the best it has ever been. If you want the ultimate in fly fishing adventure they can give it to you. I have come during the first week of the season all the way to the last week of the season. Each is unique and you can find your special week based on what you want to experience. All you have to do it ask them.
All the best.” – Bob B.
“From the moment you are picked up at the small Iliamna Airport to the day you depart this fishing lodge does not disappoint! The guides are very professional and friendly and able to help beginner fly fishermen/women to those who are already proficient. The rooms and clean and nicely appointed and the beds are comfortable. The food is excellent! You are able to order breakfast as you like it, lunch is done out at your fishing site, cooked by the guides, and delicious. Dinners are a real treat. The chef is creative and in my opinion as good as any 5-star meal I have had. The wait staff and housekeepers are also friendly and learn your names and make sure you have everything you need. We fished a new river each day and caught silver salmon to take home, and rainbow trout and grayling to release. The rivers are remote so most of the time you fly in and out of the fishing sites. Each river is breathtaking in its own unique way. One can spot bald eagles, kingfisher birds, even a bear or two! Each day is tailored to what you would like to fish for. This is a small lodge – I believe it is 16 people max. Each guide has 2 people only. This lodge is top of the line in every area. An experience to remember! Thank you, Rainbow King Lodge! We will be back!” – Darlene H
“Some people think that they go to a fishing lodge to go fishing only. How wrong they are. Rainbow King Lodge is very well managed. You get to experience Alaska. Walk the streams to see they clear water, fish, see the bears up close. Great accommodations, great food, easy to get along with. This is a great place for your wife, brother, best friend. The flights to the many areas to fish are spectacular and the highlight of the trip, unless you like the fishing. I’ve gone every year since 1993. I can go anywhere and my favorite place is Rainbow King Lodge.” – Dr. Schlichtemeier
“The rooms are clean and comfortable with private bath. The lodge is a great gathering place with hot tub, pool table, card table and big screen TV. You will not loose weight as the chefs are incredible. The guides are knowledgeable, helpful and always have a smile on their face. Truly the best fishing lodge regardless of your fly fishing expertise as there are many fish less than a stones throw away.” – mccarrollray
