Experience The Best Of Alaska’s Fishing

Imagine casting your line from the shore of a crystal-blue lake surrounded by the most majestic mountains you’ve ever seen. Or, fishing on the banks of a pristine river where your only competition for salmon are the brown bears. Imagine sitting down to a lunch of fresh-caught salmon grilled over a campfire in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness, or flying over untouched landscape on your way to a private Alaska fly-fishing expedition. If that seems like the fishing trip of your dreams, you don’t have to imagine it anymore. Rainbow King Lodge can turn all of your fishing trip fantasies into reality — giving you a one-of-a-kind experience you’ll treasure for the rest of your life.

Your Own Private Experience

Located about an hour’s flight from Anchorage along the shores of Lake Iliamna, Rainbow King Lodge is a sportsman’s paradise. Here, you’ll get to experience some of the best fishing on Earth without the crowds and competition of other fishing lodges. That’s because, unlike other fishing lodges, Rainbow King Lodge has private licenses for the exclusive use of over 110 sq miles of rivers, lakes, and streams, meaning you’ll never have to jockey for position along the shore or in the river. It’ll just be you, your rod and the great wide open.

Unique Locations

What makes fly-fishing in Alaska a memorable experience is more than the premier fishing quality — it’s the setting. Rainbow King Lodge offers you the opportunity to fish in multiple spots, each with unique beauty. Whether you’re hiking over the tundra, rafting down the river or strolling through the woods, each of Rainbow King Lodge’s exclusive fishing spots provides the best of what Alaska has to offer for the outdoorsman. You can have a different experience every day in addition to some of the best fishing you’ll ever experience.

The Best Fishing in Alaska

As amazing as the experience of getting to our fishing spots is, the main attraction at Rainbow King Lodge will always be the fish. We’re located in the heart of Alaska’s renowned trophy Rainbow Trout region. However, that’s far from the only kind of fishing you’ll find at Rainbow King Lodge. In addition to the region’s famous rainbow trout, our Alaska fly-fishing guides will help you find the best places to locate many other species, including:

At least one of the salmon species will be available at all times of the season, allowing you to plan your trip to include the species of your choice:

Sockeye Salmon run from late June to early August
King Salmon run from mid-June to late July
Pink Salmon from mid-July to mid-August
Silver Salmon from early August to end of season in September
Chum Salmon from early July to mid/late August

While all Salmon species will never run at the same time, the best overlap of runs will occur from mid to late July.
Rainbow Trout are available throughout the season, with the largest and most plentiful being available during June and mid-August through September.
Arctic Grayling fishing is always excellent, as is the Arctic Char and Northern Pike.

We keep several skiffs at Calypso Bay on the coast for those that might want to enjoy the challenge of fishing for Pacific Halibut. Calypso Bay is relatively shallow by halibut standards, so huge weights and strong currents are not a problem. We have all the needed tackle for a day’s fly-out to Calypso Bay.
