“It’s kind of like your own personal Alaska, only with fringe benefits of 30-inch rainbows and salmon runs so strong that they can choke off a stream.”

Pat Ford’s Complete Guide to Rainbow King Lodge

“I’ve been to Rainbow King most every year since 1993 and it’s one place I can recommend wholeheartedly.”

“When friends ask about my experience, the answer was always the same, ‘It was the best 6 days of fishing I have ever had. I have found the Holy Grail of fly fishing.'”

Where You’ll Fish

Unlike many other fishing lodges in Alaska, where guests participate in combat fishing with hundreds of others, you’re more likely to see moose, brown bear, foxes, and other wildlife than fisherman outside of your own party and the guides. The fishing grounds for guests of Rainbow King Lodge include over 30 streams and rivers in the Iliamna/Katmai watershed that have been secured for exclusive access via private licenses. You’ll depart from the lodge in the morning on an aircraft equipped with floats to your fishing destination of the day. There will be one guide for every two anglers, and you’ll enjoy a hot lunch prepared by your guide in the fresh air on the shore of the river or stream where you’re fishing.

ALASKA FISHING

What You’ll Catch

As the name of this Alaska fishing lodge implies, Rainbow King is located in the center of Alaska’s trophy Rainbow Trout region. You’ll also find Arctic char, Arctic grayling, and all five species of Pacific salmon — king salmon, silver salmon, the Bristol Bay area’s renowned sockeye salmon, chum salmon, and pink salmon.

When You’ll Come

Rainbow King Lodge operates seasonally from June to September. Sea-bright king salmons lead the charge in June, providing some of the most challenging angling on the face of the planet, with sockeye salmon following their lead in late June and early July. Chum salmon and pinks are next, with silver salmon providing the grand finale in August and September. The grand prize of Alaska fishing, rainbow trout are available all season with the huge trophy rainbows moving up out of Lake Iliamna in Mid-August and September. Arctic grayling and Arctic char are both hard fighters that are in the rivers and creeks all season.
